Re(visions) #118 Staying on Track with Change

Once you have realized that you want to make a change and you are
inspired to do so then your next step is to stick with the change
and stay on track.

What can you do to stick with it?  I have a couple of ideas that I
share with you.

I am stealing this expression from my Isagenix team, I don’t think
that they will mind - but I think that wrapping yourself in a
support team is one of the biggest steps you can take to
sustainability.  Ask friends, family, neighbours, co-workers,
whoever
you are comfortable with, to support you in your change.  Ask them
to challenge you, hold you accountable, share wins with them; do it
via email or via phone or Facebook.  Whatever works for you and your
support team.

Keep your “Why’s” in front of you at all times.  Your “Why’s” need
to
be deep and meaningful not superficial or material.  Who will this
change affect most?  What does it mean to you to make the change? 
What will your future look like once the change is implemented?
Great
questions, right!  Write them down and post them everywhere.  Keep
them in sight all the time.

Have confidence in yourself; affirm yourself.  Tell yourself that
the change is successful, not “will be” successful, “is” successful.
Present-tense postiviness. This will carry you through some bumps
along the way.

It is really frustrating to make changes and then not be able to
keep them up.  Try these ideas and see if they help.  Many doors
will
open for you if you can implement them.

Fiber Facts:

 Fiber serves as a food for friendly bacteria.  When we eat
fibrous foods, we increase our friendly bacteria.  These in turn
will help to get rid of the unfriendly bacteria that wreaks havoc
in our systems, making us more susceptible to disease.  

 
 If we eat no fiber (a diet consisting of white sugar and flour,
commercial fruit drinks, chips, meat, pop, and milk), colonies of
poisonous bacteria form and crowd out the friendly guys, leading us
to experience bloating and a too-full feeling after meals. 

 

 High fiber foods are very filling, yet contain very few
calories.  Since we have to chew these foods more, we are less
likely to overeat.

 

 Fiber helps to regulate sugar.  Low blood sugar results in
depression and fatigue, which prompts us to eat more, possibly
gorging!

 

Sources of fiber should be varied and include vegetables, fruits
and grains to provide complete nutrients.

 

Most of my recipes include ample amounts of fiber, since I
encourage a whole food way of life.

Re(visions) #115 Pursuit of Happiness…isn’t that a movie title?

Good Afternoon,

We are all trying to find happiness, aren’t we?  At least, I hope
we are all trying to acheive happiness.  Let’s make the assumption that
we are all on the same page and we are not just walking through life
doing nothing to try and make ourselves happy.

I think it is also fair to assume that what made us happy 10 years
ago or 20 years ago may not be what makes us happy today.  We
change as time passes and our circumstances change so therefore what we
want out of life changes.  As we become older we have more
responsibilities and more people to consider.  This makes our
pursuit slightly more complicated.  How can we make sure we get our
happiness and still provide happiness for those in our lives.  It
becomes almost a tightrope walk - a balancing act.

It is precisely the balance that I think is the key and is so
delicate to perform but necessary.  We can’t ignore our loved ones.
We can’t ignore our outside responsibilities but most of all WE CAN’T
IGNORE OURSELVES.  Isn’t that what happens sometimes?  We make sure
everyone else is happy and think it will all work out and we will be
happy because the people around us are happy - it doesn’t work.  In
the end when we stop pursuing our happiness we wilt as an
individual.

The ultimate pursuit of happiness is to do what makes us happy and
that action benefits the people around you.  If we are happy and
content then you are able to support our loved ones.  It is like the air
masks on airplanes - you are instructed to put your own mask on
first then tend to the people around you - you are making sure you
are able to breathe so that you can help others breathe.

If you can’t take that ultimate step then at least integrate some
little pieces of happy choices into your life so that you aren’t
totally forgetting yourself.  Work them in to your family plans. 
It will breathe life into your self.

My cousin in England is a young, single male who has a short-term
life plan - great!  Even more great is that his plan is to work 6
months at home then take off for 6 months on a trip of his liking. 
Right now he is in his 6 month travelling stint.  He’s in South
Africa on - wait for it - a Surfing Tour.  Who knew they even
existed?  Not I, says the girl from the middle of a continent where
there are no swells and no surf boards.
So Neil has is travelling down the coast surfing, learning about
surfing and also interacting with the people of the various areas
and doing some charity work at the same time.  What a great way to
spend your time - doing something you love and helping others at the
same time.  Good on him!
While we might not have Neil’s flexibility we might be able to find
a way to plan an adventure for ourselves too.  Is there a trip you
want to take?  Is there something you want to try - like surfing? :)
Where can you fit it in to your schedule AND can you give back at the
same time you are partaking?

Re(visions) #111 Knowledge is Power - and means lower stress…

It has been 3 weeks since I wrote to you but it feels like 30 weeks!
I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and enjoyed the time with your
family and friends.
I tried to find a nice quote for you but didn’t see one that caught
my eye so I am going to prattle on for a few moments.
My daughter came home from school yesterday with news that they
would be expected to create and deliver a speech over the next
month as a school project.  I could tell by the look on her face
and her stance as she was telling me that she was really nervous
about this - there was a lot of stress around the project for her.
She handed me the papers and asked me to read it over.  I gave her
a hug and she snuggled beside me and I told her not to worry that
everything would be fine.  I started to read the paperwork and then
I asked her if she wanted me to read it to her.  She did so I
proceeded to read the note to us, as parents, and what is expected
of us.  There was a more detailed paper on how to create a speech,
there was a sample speech and then another sheet where my daughter
could work from - to record her ideas.  Once I read the paperwork
to her she jumped up and told me what her topic would be - Taylor
Swift.   Big surprise for an 8 year old girl in love young talent!
I had her write down a couple of other ideas so that if they Taylor
Swift thing didn’t work out then she had a fall-back.  Then she
proceeded with the points that she new about Taylor and asked me
what I knew about her which was a piece on the worksheet.  So,
within a half hour she had her topic and outline all done!  She
wanted to keep going with the first draft but I encouraged her stop
and take a break and do something else.  She seemed satisfied and
calmer.  At dinner we talked about fear and if you are scared about
something then you need to ask questions because knowledge takes
fear out of things.  She seemed to grasp this and I was pleased
with the lesson I had helped her walk through.  It will be
interesting to see how the speech progresses!
So, this is a reminder to all of us that if there is something we
are scared of then we need to jump in and ask some questions.  See
what happens for you.
