Re(visions) #113 Adventures

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

My cousin in England is a young, single male who has a short-term
life plan - great!  Even more great is that his plan is to work 6
months at home then take off for 6 months on a trip of his liking.
Right now he is in his 6 month travelling stint.  He’s in South
Africa on - wait for it - a Surfing Tour.  Who knew they even
existed?  Not I, says the girl from the middle of a continent where
there are no swells and no surf boards.
So Neil has is travelling down the coast surfing, learning about
surfing and also interacting with the people of the various areas
and doing some charity work at the same time.  What a great way to
spend your time - doing something you love and helping others at the
same time.  Good on him!
While we might not have Neil’s flexibility we might be able to find
a way to plan an adventure for ourselves too.  Is there a trip you
want to take?  Is there something you want to try - like surfing? :)
Where can you fit it in to your schedule AND can you give back at the
same time you are partaking?
Intriguing questions - let’s think about it.

Re(visions) #112 Anne Frank speaks

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

With what is going on in Haiti right now and all of other tragic
things we see around us I thought this quote might inspire us to be
positive and forward-moving.

I also thought of a certain someone whom I admire, I just sent her
a card today (see info below about the card tool that I use) to tell
her that I was thinking about her;  I think that she lives up to
this quote.

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before
starting to improve the world.
By: Anne Frank

I found the quote on a great site that was created to
make you - Smile; what a great motivation!

Re(visions) #111 Knowledge is Power - and means lower stress…

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

It has been 3 weeks since I wrote to you but it feels like 30 weeks!
I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and enjoyed the time with your
family and friends.
I tried to find a nice quote for you but didn’t see one that caught
my eye so I am going to prattle on for a few moments.
My daughter came home from school yesterday with news that they
would be expected to create and deliver a speech over the next
month as a school project.  I could tell by the look on her face
and her stance as she was telling me that she was really nervous
about this - there was a lot of stress around the project for her.
She handed me the papers and asked me to read it over.  I gave her
a hug and she snuggled beside me and I told her not to worry that
everything would be fine.  I started to read the paperwork and then
I asked her if she wanted me to read it to her.  She did so I
proceeded to read the note to us, as parents, and what is expected
of us.  There was a more detailed paper on how to create a speech,
there was a sample speech and then another sheet where my daughter
could work from - to record her ideas.  Once I read the paperwork
to her she jumped up and told me what her topic would be - Taylor
Swift.   Big surprise for an 8 year old girl in love young talent!
I had her write down a couple of other ideas so that if they Taylor
Swift thing didn’t work out then she had a fall-back.  Then she
proceeded with the points that she new about Taylor and asked me
what I knew about her which was a piece on the worksheet.  So,
within a half hour she had her topic and outline all done!  She
wanted to keep going with the first draft but I encouraged her stop
and take a break and do something else.  She seemed satisfied and
calmer.  At dinner we talked about fear and if you are scared about
something then you need to ask questions because knowledge takes
fear out of things.  She seemed to grasp this and I was pleased
with the lesson I had helped her walk through.  It will be
interesting to see how the speech progresses!
So, this is a reminder to all of us that if there is something we
are scared of then we need to jump in and ask some questions.  See
what happens for you.
