It has been 3 weeks since I wrote to you but it feels like 30 weeks!
I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and enjoyed the time with your
family and friends.
I tried to find a nice quote for you but didn’t see one that caught
my eye so I am going to prattle on for a few moments.
My daughter came home from school yesterday with news that they
would be expected to create and deliver a speech over the next
month as a school project. I could tell by the look on her face
and her stance as she was telling me that she was really nervous
about this - there was a lot of stress around the project for her.
She handed me the papers and asked me to read it over. I gave her
a hug and she snuggled beside me and I told her not to worry that
everything would be fine. I started to read the paperwork and then
I asked her if she wanted me to read it to her. She did so I
proceeded to read the note to us, as parents, and what is expected
of us. There was a more detailed paper on how to create a speech,
there was a sample speech and then another sheet where my daughter
could work from - to record her ideas. Once I read the paperwork
to her she jumped up and told me what her topic would be - Taylor
Swift. Big surprise for an 8 year old girl in love young talent!
I had her write down a couple of other ideas so that if they Taylor
Swift thing didn’t work out then she had a fall-back. Then she
proceeded with the points that she new about Taylor and asked me
what I knew about her which was a piece on the worksheet. So,
within a half hour she had her topic and outline all done! She
wanted to keep going with the first draft but I encouraged her stop
and take a break and do something else. She seemed satisfied and
calmer. At dinner we talked about fear and if you are scared about
something then you need to ask questions because knowledge takes
fear out of things. She seemed to grasp this and I was pleased
with the lesson I had helped her walk through. It will be
interesting to see how the speech progresses!
So, this is a reminder to all of us that if there is something we
are scared of then we need to jump in and ask some questions. See
what happens for you.
Sincerely,

Health is a large word. It embraces not the body only, but the
mind and spirit as well;… and not today’s pain or pleasure alone,
but the whole being and outlook of a man.
