Re(visions) #115 Pursuit of Happiness…isn’t that a movie title?

Good Afternoon,

We are all trying to find happiness, aren’t we?  At least, I hope
we are all trying to acheive happiness.  Let’s make the assumption that
we are all on the same page and we are not just walking through life
doing nothing to try and make ourselves happy.

I think it is also fair to assume that what made us happy 10 years
ago or 20 years ago may not be what makes us happy today.  We
change as time passes and our circumstances change so therefore what we
want out of life changes.  As we become older we have more
responsibilities and more people to consider.  This makes our
pursuit slightly more complicated.  How can we make sure we get our
happiness and still provide happiness for those in our lives.  It
becomes almost a tightrope walk - a balancing act.

It is precisely the balance that I think is the key and is so
delicate to perform but necessary.  We can’t ignore our loved ones.
We can’t ignore our outside responsibilities but most of all WE CAN’T
IGNORE OURSELVES.  Isn’t that what happens sometimes?  We make sure
everyone else is happy and think it will all work out and we will be
happy because the people around us are happy - it doesn’t work.  In
the end when we stop pursuing our happiness we wilt as an
individual.

The ultimate pursuit of happiness is to do what makes us happy and
that action benefits the people around you.  If we are happy and
content then you are able to support our loved ones.  It is like the air
masks on airplanes - you are instructed to put your own mask on
first then tend to the people around you - you are making sure you
are able to breathe so that you can help others breathe.

If you can’t take that ultimate step then at least integrate some
little pieces of happy choices into your life so that you aren’t
totally forgetting yourself.  Work them in to your family plans.
It will breathe life into your self.

Sincerely,

Health is a large word.  It embraces not the body only, but the
mind and spirit as well;… and not today’s pain or pleasure alone,
but the whole being and outlook of a man.
