Re(visions) #126 Thinkin’ about the old days…

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I received an email after last week’s Re(visions) from one my readers
who asked me how MUCH I wanted it to be like the “old” days.  She
believes as do many others that we will be living more like we did
a century ago - keeping our families fed & sheltered & remaining in
our communities and offering our gifts and skills in trade for others’
gifts and skills - living a much more peaceful life looking after
our family and our gardens.

Coincidentally - or maybe not - I attended a retreat on Wednesday at
my neighbours and this whole idea of getting back to our
communities and getting to know our neighbours again came up.  We
did an exercise where we listed our skills that we can share if we
were ever in a situation where had to rely more on what we had at
our fingertips rather than from half way around the world.  This is
what my reader had suggested as well - that we think about our gifts,
strengths, skills and share them with others.  It was an interesting
exercise and things came up that I wasn’t thinking of and I came up
with things that others weren’t thinking of. That is beauty of
community - bringing together of different minds to create one larger
mind with the eye to co-create a great community.

I admitted to my reader that I enjoy alot of the conveniences of our
present world but if it came down to it I know that I can exist
without the conveniences and we are beginning a great movement here
in New Dublin to create a fuller and helpful community.

Thanks to C. for the email and thanks to N.E.W. Networking Community
your great vision.
Sincerely,

Quote for the Day

“Let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food” -Hippocrates
I might have used this before but it begs repeating.  Even then,
when Hippocrates was alive, we knew the nutrition was the ultimate
healer.  Let’s thrive with great nurtiion!

Re(visions) # 125 Lemonade on the front porch

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time
we have rushed through life trying to save.

Will Rogers

Mr Rogers came from another era.  I don’t seem to have any problem
finding things to fill up my time with. That’s the thing these days.
We save time with all our modern conveniences then we fill up our
saved time on more activities.  Some days I wish we lived in the
“old” days.  When the days work was done we sat on the front porch
and enjoyed a glass of lemonade…ok, maybe something stronger.

Have a great weekend.

Health Tip

Try a trail mix instead of chips for a snack - raw almonds, raisins,
cranberries, redskin peanuts, pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.  This
is a great combo to give you some healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.
If you HAVE to have some salt then just pick on ingredient that has
salt added, like the peanuts.  That should be enough for your
tastebuds. :)

Re(visions) #124 Share a Smile

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

I had an email from a friend of mine who reads Re(visions).  He
shared with me that he and his wife celebrated her birthday in
style!  They went to Boston prior to her special day and then came
home and celebrated some more!  Thanks for sharing your celebration
with us, A.

Last week I put a quote out -
A well timed smile can be someone else’s miracle. - Scott Walkinshaw

What a great quote!  Thanks Scott. :)
We never know what others are going through in their lives and
sharing a smile with a stranger or someone you love may be just what they
need to get them through their day.

Let’s put a smile on our faces today, and a smile in our voice too
when we are talking on the phone.  Pay that smile forward and share
it with everyone.

Have an awesome weekend. :)

Re(visions) #123 The difference between adults and kids…

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Besides celebrating Easter we also spent 4 days celebrating my
daughter’s birthday!  Isn’t that awesome!  Not everyone gets
presents, special meals and family and friends around them for 4
days in a row.  I’m not known as an extravagent person (at least I
don’t think I am) but I tend to let go with the kids and their
celebrations (although there will be no more parties with 15
9 year old girls!?!!?!) I figure what the heck! Let them have fun
and enjoy the attention.  They are only kids once.

Then I was thinking about us as adults.  Why don’t we let go and
celebrate our special days as much as kids do?  Is it because it
isn’t as important and we don’t want to be reminded or is it because
we don’t think we should be so splashy and obvious about our special
days?  We are to be more mature and staid as adults, right? No fuss.

There are exceptions of course.  I am part of a Women’s Network and
our Program Director is a lovely woman.  She is very special and kind.
One of her “quirks” is that she loves her birthday and celebrates for
about 2 months on each side of it.  As her birthday approaches she will
tell people that her birthday is coming and what she is going to do
to celebrate.  She loves receiving birthday wishes before and after
her birthday.  After her birthday she tells people it was my birthday…
a month ago.  She is a hoot and a blessing.  We should all have that
energy and zest for celebrating.

Let’s celebrate like a kid.  4 days non-stop. Or at the very least,
share the special day with everyone you meet and receive the attention
with grace and pleasure.

Re(visions) #122 Courage and Support

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you
know you can lose.”
by Tom Krause

I attended a motivational call this morning and we were sharing our
experiences and talking about how it takes a lot of courage to stop
thinking about doing something and just do it.  It means we might
make some mistakes and fumble around but that’s ok because this is
how we learn to do it better the next time we do it.

The other piece of courage is to engage a friend to help.  If they
support you, whether it is going to a scary appointment or making a
cold call, they are there as your rock and your back up.  What
great value that is in our step toward courage.

This Re(visions) is dedicated to my back up and my friend, Sue.

I hope everyone has a great long weekend.  The weather here is going
to be awesome.
