Re(visions) #129 Communication (cont)

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Well, to continue on from last week’s thoughts about communication.
I want to thank you for your emails.  I am glad that my email was
beneficial to you.

I did get to have my conversation with my mentor and I did get to
express my frustration in a non-threatening way.  By the time I
talked
with her I knew it wasn’t personal (the miscommunication) and so I
was able to express how I felt and then we moved on to discuss my
challenges and strategies.  Expressing myself to you and to my other
business partners helps me immensely as well.  So thank you for
that
opportunity.

This is more about communication but in a different context.  I
would like to share this quote with you today to help you move
forward in your week.

“Keep in mind that the true measure of an individual is how he
treats a person who can do him absolutely no good.”  Ann Landers

Re(visions) #128 Communication, communication, communication…

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Did you get the hint that I am going to talk about communication
today?

It seems to be the Theme in my day.  It is so important to communicate
with others with no assumptions and perfect clarity.  So that there
is no misunderstanding or room for negative thoughts to sneak their
way in to your sub-concsience.

I have been trying to schedule time with a person who supports me in
my business; I get feedback and advice and I am looking for a good chat
about where I am going in terms of business.  This has been a very
frustrating task as she is busy and has a lot of people to support.
Technology is also getting in our way - email is great when it works,
right?  The final straw came when our scheduled call got bumped due
to circumstances she couldn’t control at the time. I felt frustrated
and unimportant at the time (I didn’t know what happened at this
point).  I felt like a kid who doesn’t get their way and stamps their
feet trying to get attention. (I only stamped my feet in my mind).
All of these negative things popped into my mind.  I started
making assumptions - she doesn’t want to talk to me, she doesn’t have
time for me and so on.  Keep in mind it was 10pm at night and I was
tired. Morning brought a little more clarity and I knew I was going
to have to have a frank conversation with her and let her know about
my frustration and what I have been feeling in terms of our inability
to connect.  The thought of that conversation makes me uneasy but I
know I will feel better once it is done.  It has to be uncomfortable
in order to get to the root of the feelings.

We have to set up better ways to communicate and be clear around our
expectations so that we both know where we stand - I am making
assumptions that she doesn’t really want to support me because we
haven’t been successful at connecting but it is more that she is
really busy and overscheduling herself.  She is making assumptions
that…well, I don’t know yet what her assumptions are.  That will
come out in the conversations.

I think we are both hoping for a successful outcome but it will take
communication and openness for it to be successful.

So, the next time your spouse asks you do a task at home and you say
yes and the next day said spouse is upset that it is not done. Perhaps
there is a communication gap to fill - your spouse wanted it done
yesterday and you heard “do whenever you can, honey”.  Next time
agree on a time frame and then there are no assumptions and no angry
spouses.

Re(visions) #127 Dancing with Integrity

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

This morning I witnessed a women who was looking for a way to be
convinced.  She threw some objections up and I addressed them and I
when I asked the final question - are you willing to commit? - she
said yes.

It is hard to gauge those who want you to talk them into something
vs
the people who just don’t know how to say no to you and so they are
stalling hoping that you will just go away.  It’s a dance we
have to take part in when marketing our businesses.

I will tell you what I appreciate.  I love fielding objections and
satisfying people’s need to know and I APPRECIATE when someone has
the integrity to be up front and honest and doesn’t keep dragging
out
a dance because they can’t say what they feel.

So, I am putting this out to the universe today.  If someone wants
you to buy their services or products and you have a thought or a
feeling or an objection - please share it with the person who is
marketing to you.  It shows your integrity to yourself and the
person
on the receiving end feels acknowledged - both are valuable.
